I firmly believe that the best musical learning experience is founded on 3 main principles -

2. MUSIC THEORY

Learning how to read sheet music doesn't need to be intimidating!

Younger students enjoy learning all about how to read the staff by playing games.

Once the basics are mastered, I delve a little deeper into music theory and help students learn about major/minor scales, how to determine key signatures (major and relative minor), and more!

1. SIGHT-READING

"Sight reading" is the term musicians use to describe playing a piece of music without having heard it beforehand.

It is an irreplaceable tool for any musician, regardless of their level of experience.

It's for that reason that I love utilizing the Suzuki books, but I don't subscribe to that method of teaching. Whereas "monkey see, monkey do" works very well for extremely young students, I find that omitting any emphasis on learning proper sight-reading is detrimental in the long run.

3. ENJOYMENT

I've been teaching for over 15 years and I grow to love it more and more with each passing year!

Learning to play the violin can be tricky, but I find that providing a mixture of many different styles of music creates the best, most well-rounded experience for each of my students. In my studio, we learn how to play classical, fiddle, popular, movie music, etc! I'm also happy to help with any music provided by their school orchestra or symphony.

My main goal as their teacher is to set my students up for a life-long love for the violin and provide them with the skills necessary to follow their passion.

VIOLIN STUDIO REVIEWS

"I'm in my 40's and decided to learn the violin. I have been taking lessons from Jessica for a few months. She is very knowledgeable, encouraging, and fun! She challenges me to try harder pieces and techniques, and she has faith in me that I will succeed. She has been very flexible with me to find a time that works for both of us and our crazy schedules. I think the lesson price is very reasonable. I would highly recommend Jessica to anyone - kid or adult, beginner or advanced!"
